DRECP Public Session

January 15, 2013

6-8 pm

Joshua Tree Community Center

Stephanie Dashiell, California Desert Conservation Associate with Defenders of Wildlife, will be providing a high-level overview of the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP) focused on answers to the following questions: 1) What is the DRECP? 2) What are the essential elements of a successful DRECP from the perspective of conservation organization stakeholders? 3) How will the DRECP affect the Morongo Basin? 4) How can the public participate?

The meeting will include an overview presentation followed by a question and answer session with conservation stakeholder representatives involved with the working details of the DRECP. All residents of the Morongo Basin and other desert communities are welcome to participate at no cost.

Defenders of Wildlife, a national non-profit organization with over a million members nationwide, has been active in desert ecosystem and species conservation efforts in California for the past 20 years. Defenders of Wildlife, along with eight other environmental non-profits, is a member of the DRECP Stakeholder Committee.  The Stakeholder Committee was created to inform Plan development, including decisions about development and conservation of our public lands.

Stephanie Dashiell started with Defenders of Wildlife in November of 2011 and, among other responsibilities, represents the organization on the DRECP Stakeholder Committee. Stephanie tracks the progress of the DRECP and organizes joint environmental stakeholder comments on planning documents. Stephanie is a resident of Joshua Tree.
